90’s gallery page

Krogel’s debut cover art unusually for its time saw a release in Japan.  It’s Tolkein inspired map design would find appeal with the Japanese, so much so that Krogel’s sequel made it there also. A Krogel inspired box art would further be released exclusively for Japan’s, Might and Magic III.


The series overal tone of cover art style has always been resolutely western in its approach.  Japanese exclusive box arts, such as Might and Magic (PC Engine CD ver), Might and Magic III (PC-98 ver) and Might and Magic Book II (Super Famicom ver) would all demonstrate this western influence, with only the PlayStation 2’s, Might and Magic VIII displaying a more classical Japanese anime look.


After Larry Elmore’s cover art for Might and Magic VIII (Windows ver) the series would loose the character heavy look it had adorned for a decade or so. In its place, for Might and Magic IX, a more symbolic cover was used.


The most recent game to date, Might and Magic X: Legacy would use a computer art cover, but with no physical release to date, it isn’t included here.
